What's wrong with buying rechargeable batteries?
It's much cheaper to replace just the batteries than the whole unit, no?
You just charge the PS3 controller through a USB port. You can plug it into a laptop to charge it. That's better then spending money on batteries imo.

Well, you missed the point of his objection, but someone earlier pointed out that you can indeed replace the rechargeable battery in the PS3 controller, and even without voiding warranty.

I get the point of buying rechargeable batteries. but the idea of buying the charger and then the batteries that makes me want to be a cheapskate. I just like being able to plug my controller in and not worry about having to change the batteries out.

Like someone said before you can't play with the Wii mote too well if you have it plugged in.  Buy either the 1 hour or 10 minute charger and buy rechargable batteries for it.  Simple as that and you can actually put those batteries in something like a tv remote or other things instead of one controller.  I bought rechargable batteries/charger back during GCN days (wavebird).  Sure I had to replace my batteries with newer ones but I had them for about 3-4 years ago before needing replacing.
