The Blu-Ray drive reportedly added $300 to the manufacturing costs of the PS3. Not only would the PS3 have been cheaper, the European launch would not have been delayed to to diode shortages.
I don't think there's any question that the PS3 would be in second. Also, due to higher sales, it may have actually been able to keep more of its exclusives from going multi-platform.
