The reason it is still going, is that they are now making money on it. Think of it kind of like the Ps3 (of course, not directly).

Despite the company being pretty retarded when it comes to money, they keep getting people who invest tons. Just in the past 2 weeks, they have gotten 2 major investors.

 

Ha, well thats something I didn't know! The last thing I heard was the rumoured 70% staff layoff with Funcom confirming that 'some staff have been layoff to better persue our economic interest' or some crap like that. When a rumour that bad is floating around and the PR are not outright denying the figure (nowhere did they disagree with the 70%) then I can only assume they are in deep shit.

Anyways like Oyvoyvoyv said, there is no way this game made back even a fraction of the cost it took to create it. MMO development cost makes HD console games look like chump change. The initial sales are nothing, it's the revenue of the subscription that makes them profitable.
