The people who add these features are different from those who work on other things.
That said, a lot of what they add to the PS3 via firmware is pretty welcome. It's come quite a long way with the firmware updates. With media alone, I couldn't play any of the videos that I currently have on my PS3 (apart from PS store downloads) when it first came out.
