I've just conquered a couple of castles but they still have the color of the nation I'm some kind of vasal under. Also, it has been hard so far, I've lost all my men more than just a couple of times, end up captured by the enemy, and it feels like I just start over having to recruit villies and buy mercenaries again.

Also, more than half the time Im spending riding all over the map just to seek out villages that I feel forced to burn and pillage just to get enuff money for my army's weekly upkeep.

 

In the original game there really isn't that much of one. The mod I'm currently using (Age of Machinery I think) has the end goal of creating your own kingdom (which I have done) and conquering the world (which I haven't).

The original game is essentially just a base for the mods to be built onto in my opinion, its fun and worth the money in its own right (due to the excellent combat in game) but its the mods that really make the game shine in my opinion.
