From what I understand, there are still plenty of units around - so yes, extra units have been shipped in.
This is completely predictable, and expected. There was huge pent-up demand, it all got released at once - and you will see sales drop significantly to almost US/Japan levels in the next 2 weeks.
Re: Software - looks like many people with PS3's (20%?) went out to but another game, the other sales come from the new hardware units sold. Again, it needs a couple more weeks to stabalise.
The ball is now *firmly* in Sony's court, to ensure that this momentum isn't lost - a new, BIG, title release wouldn't hurt...
