This is in there mostly to put variety in gameplay. FEAr 1 had lot of criticism that it was the same 5 minutes over and over...
While the robot scenes are not as tense as the rest of the game, I found it to be plain old fun. Just mowing the suckers down... the mech controls well and doesn't feel detached like vehicle sequences in other games like Crysis and Gears 2.
