I don't see Sony dropping the PS3. It's close to becoming profitable, and there'll be a decent following of fans to buy it, even at expensive prices. They might as well keep the price high, and reduce it only when the drop entails them continuing to make a slight profit.
Sony as a software company? Eh. May work if a bit of their games are on the next 360 :-p
