By supplying such a large number of units for launch Sony effectively satisfied the initial launch demand for the system; typically, because of short supply, this takes months to do on most systems. Now, the current sales are (probably) still elevated due to people who became interested because of all the hoopla of the launch so in a few weeks/month we will see what the demand for the PS3 (at its current price with its current game list) really is.
