trying to push the ps2 in latin america is silly, people from developed countries must think we live in a cave or something, everyone wants a wii or a 360, not an 8 year old ps2. Local taxes make the ps2 cost US$200, gues what?, a 360 here is US$400, most people will wait until they can get the 360. everyone knows the ps2 is dead and no games are coming out for it, but the most important thing is that piracy will never let the ps2 be profitable here. Minimun wage is around US$150 and a new ps2 game is US$40-US$65, do you really think someone will buy an original? for a original game to sell it would need to be around US$10-US$15. |
If it is giving them profit and brand recognition than why abandon it.? Secondly when someone buy a console he will atleast use it for sometime and will buy some accessories so he will atleast not be giving $$$$ to the competitor product..
So if they can present PS2 as a cheap and valuable entertainment system, than i don't see any harm in it.. plus it PS2 game library is complementary to PS3 game library.. So it won't eat into PS3 sales at all
