Most games aren't limited by the processor. Once you already have a quad-core at that speed, spending more won't really improve performance. You should spend the money on a better graphics card - which one are you going for at present?
If you must get a better processor, the best performance in each price range above $200 is:
About $200 - Phenom II X4 920
About $235 - Phenom II X4 940
About $280 - Core 2 Quad Q9550
About $330 - Core 2 Quad Q9650
About $550 - Core i7 940
About $999 - Core i7 965
Anything else (over $200) isn't worth buying. But seriously, stick with the Phenom II X4 920 and upgrade your graphics card instead. The best is the GTX295 or HD4870 X2 depending on game and resolution.
