This article is ass backwards. The reason each of those consoles were still on the market is because they were still desirable by enough consumers to keep production running. Nintendo and Sony didn't wake up in the beginning of each gen and figure out that if they would just keep their consoles in the market for 10 years they were bound to win. These were winning consoles ALREADY. If the PS2 were to have stopped production the same day as the Xbox, and the Xbox were to have continued on it still never would pass the PS2. Winning consoles are just winning consoles. Long lifecycles are just the spoils from being the winner. I would love to watch Sony stick to this 10 year plan if in the future after the PS4 is on the market, the PS3 can't sell much more than a few thousand a week.
