Personally i think it would take more than 1gen to completely destroy the PS brand across the whole world which is what MS has been trying to do and failed and now what Nintendo is trying to do with the Wii,Nintendo always owned handhelds so that doesnt make much difference, in JPN they pick their console of choice early and its the only one this gen its the Wii with over 3million sold there already,PS3 is kicking and screaming over there but has less than 1.5million sold and the X360 well thats just dead in the water and trying to be resusitated but the doctors(MS) arent having much luck.
In NA i cant really do a proper analysis seeing has i dont really follow the industry there but its big enough(USA and Canada pretty f'ing big)to keep 3-4 consoles held high simultaneously so it doesnt matter as much as proven by the Xbox and X360.
EU/PAL has always prefered PS and Sony to anything and its presence isnt going to be easily forgotten just because of the Wii it will take atleast a Wii2 to win to come close to oblitrateing the PS brand in EU which is long from gone.
I think the only thing holding the PS3 back is the price WW its too expensive in all regions for the average gamer to buy without a serious hit to the bank balance.I think if the PS3 gets to at least $399/€399 then it will sell much better then it is now.
