NVIDIA has announced a 3D kit that will work with "hundreds" of Direct X games. It requires a fast Core 2 Duo and up computer and an Nvidia 9800+ GPU. They have a handy downloadable utility that will see if your machine is up to the task.
If so all you need is the glasses for $199 or a glasses and monitor bundle for $600. The glasses appear to be liquid crystal shutters control by an infrared transmitter for the synch. That would open for eye eye on alternating frames at 120+ fps so to make the flicker invisible. This technology has been around for a long time and it does work well. Expect it to come to your favorite console soon.
