@Onyxmeth: Your covering all bases, you mention that a game can never live up to the hype that's created by fanboys yet at the same time your saying its the bar that Sony set themselves that determine what is a flop or not.
As for the topic, ridiculous hyping of a game is only bad in that there tends to be multiple threads stating the same thing over and over, but anybody who truly buys into hype deserve all they get. I can't say if PS3 fans are any worse than 360 or Wii fans, I don't own them consoles so I don't goto their forums.
The only person that should determine whether hype matches a game is the person who plays it, a great game is a great game irrespective of sales & hype.
