By re-inforcing their strangle hold on console gaming online. By including a HDD out of the box. By moulding their controller as a next step up from their last gen console controller. By making a HD console. Right.. they're really following the PS2. I know what you were trying to get at, but the only way in which the 360 tried to immitate the PS2 is the same way a new console always tries to immitate the number 1. In this case the only reasonable link you could make is that MS went out of their way to secure previously exclusive series and new series exclusively on their platform. But that's what any competitor with half a brain would do anyway. The way I see it, whilst none of the 3 companies are true innovators, Nintendo tend to be the most "left field" in their approach, with Sony leeching off of their ideas that work and including them in future playstations. We can't know for sure until the next generation what MS "business strategy" is, considering that any logical newcomer would have copied the then industry leader, but that's not to say that MS copies Sony. |
I was thinking in terms of trying to have every third party game on their console, which gets them part of the way there. In this generation, having good online of high specs out of the box (MS and Sony) was not what the majority wanted. An inviting control scheme that doesn't put off non-gamers was what worked for Nintendo.
"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY." --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
