They don't need a price drop in Japan. The Ps3's sales are just about as healthy there as they've ever been, and the software lineup over the coming months should keep things that way.

The problem being that PS3 sales have never been healthy in Japan.

As for this price cut business, I never expected a worldwide price cut. I expected one in NA with one falling shortly thereafter in Europe, but more likely a simultaneous cut in both regions.

If it happens at all, that is.

Due to the weak dollar it would more likely be the other way around.

SCEA are already paying alot more for PS3 than when they originally priced it at $399, when SCEI next cut the price their regional divisions pay for PS3 then it will just go towards cancelling out SCEA's foreign exchange losses. This doesn't apply to SCEJ, so they would actually be able to pass the price cut onto consumers.

The situation's a bit different in Europe, the Euro isn't doing too bad, but the Pound is, so we could see a price drop for mainland Europe, but not for UK (PS3 is currently €335 in UK Vs €399 in mainland Europe.
