I'll give the usual argument that any moral law enforcement is as equally "encroaching" as any other. The ones that stand are just the ones that have the most backers.

While I agree that a ton of Christian-professing people know next to nothing about their own Christianity, you're probably aware of the NT passages that do explicitly state homosexuality as wrong. Also, while Jesus never mentioned homosexuality, he never said anything about child molestation, either.
