Actaully, it was the republicas who freed the slaves. The "Southern Democrats" were for slavery, and they used the Bible to defend their peculiar institution.

Yeah, that's great that the right freed the slaves, what does that have to do with the modern suppresion of gay rights? Blacks before them is reference more to the 1900s where it was commonly taught in churches that blacks were inferior. The right wasn't always religious, but it is now.
