leo-j: I do not own Lair. My friend bought it on Saturday, and I was staying at his house so I got to play it for 5 hours. In fact, he told me today he intends on returning it.

The first Battle is absolutely overwhelming. It feels amazing and Epic, but this is partially fueled by you not knowing what on earth is going on. In later enormous battles that seem epic, you tend to notice through the facade. You see your teammates doing nothing but fleeing from a pack of random enemy dragons. The music is ochestral, but began sounding like a Star Wars themed Rip Off than an original fantasy Epic Score. The story being anywhere from low to moderately retarded and non existant AI from attackers or defenders don't help.

Unless you feel compelled to play the game till you get gold in every mission, and there are at least 13 missions (I only beat 12), you can rent it and get all the experience you need to know. No need to pay 70 bucks for that.
