^Yup. IMO, continuing to release follow-ups to an old series should be the obligation to the creator if the series is popular. Just like how we are at our 22nd James Bond Film, 30th year of Garfield comics, 3712th episode of Eastenders etc.

Stopping the series while it is popular should be considered a "crime against humanity" (exaggeration) unless the creator dies or suffers from a terminal illness (e.g. Charles Schultz and the Peanuts)
