Ok, I'm going to go over this again. Like one poster has stated...this is one reason why extending the current life cycle of the 360 is a GOOD thing. technoogy is CONSTANTLY improving. the 360 released in 2005. i am sure superior hardware will be available that will not cost $500. Sony is the company you should be referencing. It's the only company as of late to try to release a $500+ console with 0 games, which is what makes your posts so ironic. And can I ask YOU a question? Did the 360 need Halo 3 at launch to sale? Did it require GOW1 at launch 2 sale? If memory serves me correctly, NO. If microsoft produces a reliable, improved, flexible successor to the 360 at a decent price, I am sure it will sale. Whether you like it or not, the Xbox does have a reliable growing customer base. The Playstation brand had/has a massive following and many expected the PS3 to sell ass loads at a $600 price tag without any games, because of the Playstation customer base.
Microsoft is a smart company. They will Not release the 360 successor anytime soon. They will NOT price their next console at $500. And I am pretty sure hardware reliability will be at the top of their list next gen. Notice the amazing 3rd party relationships Microsoft has built in such little time, so it amazes me that you would underestimate the company. You should be more concerned about Sony. All of the mistakes you seem concerned about Microsoft making, Sony has already made. Edit: Also, I know many gamers who do not care for the GOW or Halo franchise and they still pay for live. Just because you cannot appreciate the value of Live does not mean you should assume other individuals do not. |
Yes, most of the 360's early adapters had a very good idea that Halo 3 was going to be on the 360. All the shows like Entertainment Tonight were talking about how the big stars in young Hollywood like the Indian Guy from That 70's Show were looking forward to the 360 and throwing Halo parties in the weeks leading up to the console's launch because Halo 3 was eventually going to be on there. They also knew about Gears because it was announced at the MTV 360 Special prior to E3 2005.
I think the 360 competes as much with the PC as far as graphics, etc, go as they do with the PS3, notice how many of the big games on the 360 are PC games, and if Microsoft waits too long, I would say that they would encounter a situation where PC tech was too advanced for them to incorporate it effectively into the Next Xbox at an affordable price. I would say they want to release a Next Box that is also as comparable to the next generation pc's as is the 360 to current PCs, and I don't think they can do that too cheaply. Also, if they wait too long current PC games will begin to outpace them at a much faster pace. It is widely considered that best version of Fallout 3 is on the 360, but give PC's two more years of evolving tech, and there will be no way the 360 can keep up with what you see on PCs.
Heavens to Murgatoids.
