The longer they can keep it on the market, the longer that gives PS3 and the amazing titles that are in its future to pass the 360 which has already had its peak game years imo. I'm sure their plan calls for getting it out by Gears 3's launch because they don't have another game capable of moving a $500.00 super system other than Gears especially since Bungie is done with Halo after ODST.

Right, because clearly the 360 will not release amazing titles and the progression of the 360 life cycle is static?

And why would Microsoft release a $500 console? I think every console manufacturer here on out has learned from the blunders of Sony.

One company was under the impression that it could push a $600 console even if it had zero games (Sony).

I can point out a host of other illogical assumptions in your post, but I think I've made my point.

You should apply for a job at Sony.

Microsoft had their best shot at wowing folks with their games in '08 when they had what everyone thought should have been several AAA titles including Tales of Vesperia, Lost Odyssey, Fable 2, Ninja Gaiden II, Too Human, and Gears of War 2.  Yet how did the majority of those games turn out?  When all was said and done only one turned out to be a bonafide AAA title.  Their best years were '07 and '08, but those years are behind them while we haven't even started to see the best from Sony.  And even though we haven't even started to see Sony's best yet, they still had the best games released last year and won the most awards for their games of all the consoles.  MGS 4 best shooter action adventure game, Valkyrie Chronicles best JRPG and SJRPG, and Little Big Planet Best Innovative Game.

1) good to know that you think you are psychic, but until the xbox 360's life cycle is complete you cannot declare 07 ad 08 the 360's best years. sorry, guess i'm just not buying your psychic awareness.

2) critical acclaim is not what keeps companies in business, especially the financially irresponsible ones. i think if microsoft had to choose between critical acclaim or outperforming Sony in software, hardware, and profits...i'm pretty sure Microsoft and any other company would choose the latter.

maybe the current management team at Sony shares your blind optimism, which would explain its current situation...

honestly, individuals like you kind of give Sony supporters a bad rep.

The same question I posed to those other folks:

"Yes, but then how do you expect them to sell a system that is going to be as significantly as much of a leap over the 360 as the 360 was over the original XBOX and that at the very least will be able to run Crysis at its highest settings as well as a high end PC without a game that is an instant must have title like  Gears of War 3 to propel its sales and convince those Live subscribers to pay the high price that such a system would cost?"

Ok, I'm going to go over this again. Like one poster has stated...this is one reason why extending the current life cycle of the 360 is a GOOD thing. technoogy is CONSTANTLY improving. the 360 released in 2005. i am sure superior hardware will be available that will not cost $500. Sony is the company you should be referencing. It's the only company as of late to try to release a $500+ console with 0 games, which is what makes your posts so ironic.

And can I ask YOU a question? Did the 360 need Halo 3 at launch to sale? Did it require GOW1 at launch 2 sale? If memory serves me correctly, NO. If microsoft produces a reliable, improved, flexible successor to the 360 at a decent price, I am sure it will sale.  Whether you like it or not, the Xbox does have a reliable growing customer base.

The Playstation brand had/has a massive following and many expected the PS3 to sell ass loads at a $600 price tag without any games, because of the Playstation customer base.

Microsoft is a smart company. They will Not release the 360 successor anytime soon. They will NOT price their next console at $500. And I am pretty sure hardware reliability will be at the top of their list next gen. Notice the amazing 3rd party relationships Microsoft has built in such little time, so it amazes me that you would underestimate the company.

You should be more concerned about Sony. All of the mistakes you seem concerned about Microsoft making, Sony has already made.

Edit: Also, I know many gamers who do not care for the GOW or Halo franchise and they still pay for live. Just because you cannot appreciate the value of Live does not mean you should assume other individuals do not.

I'm not a fanboy, I just try to tip the balance in favor of logic and common sense.
