I would never pay for a service that should be free. I have had an xbox360 for years and never even used the online features since they should be free. I love PSN for what it is. As soon as it becomes a cash grab slap in the face I am GONE. I think that SONY would never do that anyway because it would screw up the 10 year plan and alienate a good percentage of their fan base.
