| CGI-Quality said: @ Dodece Right, now with that, how did the Neo-Geo sell? And more expensive than both PS3 and Neo-Geo was the Panasonic/Sanyo (yes there were two versions) 3DO. It launched at $699.99, I should know, I bought one and loved it, especially for Super Street Fighter II: Turbo and Total Eclipse. Talk about "next gen". However, how did it sell? Hmmmm, neither of those consoles (Neo-Geo, 3DO) ever saw the success the PS3 is seeing at their prices. Now of course PS3 is not doing as good as a Sony Playstation should be doing coming off of two HUGE, successful generations and this is where I agree with you, it s Sony's fault mostly, yes Sony fans it is their fault, sorry. However, sinking ships were: Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast (though still within the top 5 greatest consoles of ALL TIME) the 3DO, CDi, Neo-Geo, and Atari Jaguar. To be fair to PS3, NONE of those consoles had a 20million, (and still growing), userbase. I must admit however, that if PS3 doesn't make significant headway in 2009, then a 3rd place Playstation (for the first time EVER) is where PS3 is headed. PS3, hurting the brand, yes, is it all over for Sony, no, will there be a PS4, I believe so... my $0.02. |
curmudgeongamer did a fairly decent analysis of console launch prices adjusted for inflation, and when you translated the 3DO into 2006 prices it came out to just under $1,000 ( http://curmudgeongamer.com/imgdisplay.php3?shotfile=console-prices-relative.png ) ...
When you are comparing a system that has the heritage of two of the best selling consoles of all time, and are trying to say that it hasn't sold that poorly because it sold better than a console that (when adjusted for inflation) was 66% more expensive it speaks volumes to how poorly it has performed.
