the multiplayer portion must be pretty good then
good score so far, i'll predict 94% on metacritic

It doesn't matter. A game without strong narrative should not recieve a 90+ score. Narrative standards in games seem to be lower than for movies and books, and most reviewers and developers have been putting gameplay before storyline. That should not be promoted by essentially rewarding such games and developers with such high scores, forgiving major faults such as a weak plot.

But games are NOT books or films. Should books and films be given low marks because they have very weak (actually, non-existant) gameplay?

Games are interactive movies. Storyline should come before or at least equal to gameplay.

Um...
I don't even know what to say. =|

Lets's go back to basics then.. Movies = motion pictures. games =interactive motion pictures (images in motion that is interactive is what constitutes a game) i.e Games = interactive movies.
