An empire rules the land, you start as a nobody and get to save a princess (who leads a resistance against the empire) with the help of a ship pilot (who is being chased by bounty hunters) that is accompanied by a non human character. You have a good character gone bad (Basch's brother) that in the end redeems himself and does something good to help destroy the empire and dies afterwards.
The emperor starts as a kind and very diplomatic guy but then revelas himself as a very evil and authoritary ruler.
You have several flying ships fight sequences, there are different races (the moogles are tiny and cute like the little bears from The return of the Jedi), the magicite could resemble the force because it makes people very powerful (if I remember correctly the judges used it and they were as powerful as jedis, not trying to offend Star Wars fans)...
There are many other points that I can't remember but I just found the story from FFXII very weak because it wasn't very original...
