I suppose this is actually pretty similar to what I feel. Playing through the demo of Eternal Sonata, I've been very excited about how they've diverged from a more traditional combat system. But there are some games that have taken turn-based combat and made enough changes to it that it captures your interest again -- I remember playing Shadow Hearts and being pleasantly surprised by how interactive that 'Wheel of Judgement' system was. It breathed a new sort of life into turn-based combat, and I felt like I had a lot of control over how every battle would turn out. From what I'm reading, Lost Odyssey looks like it's going to offer the same sort of turn-based combat with some real-time elements to it. It'll be interesting to see how it ends up playing -- I'll pick it up whether it turns out to be innovative or not, just because I find the art and the story so compelling at this point that I'm confident I'll enjoy it regardless of what they end up doing with the combat. |
With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.
