@Taxman: Sony has BD, which should be making profit for Sony, Cell is planned to be used in other applications than just PS3. And the size of that investment is just growing. And, if Sony would discontinue PS3, SCE would be posting profit the next quarter the production would end.

Even if they do gain from stopping the losses when selling the PS3, they will definitely lose in the long run when the console and it's games will be making profits. That day will come eventually and while the ps3 will not recoup all the money it has lost, it will lose much less overall if they continue selling it.

The PS3's losses are close to the highest they will go at this point in its lifetime. The excellent games coming soon and the lowering of the manufacturing costs will eventually make it turn a profit (not overall but in particular quarters).

PSN ID: T_Gears

End of 2009 ltd sales:

Wii = 67-68m

X360 = 38-39m

PS3 = 34-35m

Prediction: The PS3 will surpass the 360 on weekly sales after it drops to $299 on all regular weeks (no big releases).
