Why are people dumb enough to keep saying Sony "failed"? Failing doesn't happen until everything is all said and done. The PlayStation 3 has 2 things on its side that will make it end up being very successful:
1. time and 2. games and more games

140 million people bought ps2's + 24 million xbox's + 22 million gamecubes= 186 million people bought 6th generation consoles.

45 million wiis + 28 million xbox360s + 20 million ps3's = 93 million people have bought 7th generation consoles so far. I'd say there are a lot of people who haven't upgraded to a 7th generation console yet.

Do people really disagree that 2009 will be the year that the PS3 becomes the preferable console with the games coming out? How can you really dispute it? Name me 3 exclusives better than God of War III, Killzone 2, and Uncharted 2. Okay name me 4 actually because of FFXIII Versus. Okay fine name me 5 because of Gran Tourismo 5. Well, I guess name me 6 because of White Knight Chronicles. Nevermind name me 7 because of DC Universe Online. Screw it, name me 8 because of Heavy Rain. Name me 9 because of inFamous. We'll just even it out, name me 10 because of Afrika. Oh well we can't keep it even because of MAG. Also, Team ICO's game is said to be coming out in 2009 by the bigheads at Sony. Fine, last one I swear, Ratchet and Clank 2.

And I can still get Street Fighter 4, Resident Evil 5, Tekken 6, and COD MW2? Please, sign me up.

How can all of you all be so naive to think the dominant console of this generation will be decided in the first 2 years of the consoles releases?

The reason we think that it will be decided within the first two years is because it always has been decided in the first two years. In the post crash world of gaming there has not been one exception.

Now the reason why the PS3 is considered a 'failure' by people is because of several things.

1. Profit. This is the aim of all companies in the end and the PS3 has so far not provided any, in fact the amount that the PS3 has sunk means that it is unlikely to ever make an overall profit in hardware/software. They have always loss-lead but the amount of their loss seems too large this time. Arguments could perhaps be provided that Blu-Ray will be worth it but even that doesn't really seem to have taken off in a big way since the demise of HDDVD.

2. Marketshare. There is absolutley no rational way for the PS3 to beat the Wii this generation. Most people agree its going to still be a fairly close race for third between the 360 and the PS3. Going from first to battling not to be last in one generation is a big drop.
