to be honest with you i don't think PS3 can handle Split screen of the campagin without losing quality.

 

I don't think it should be any different than say, Halo 2 single player/split screen.  The only 'quality loss' was HUD, nothing else really should change.  And I don't think blaming the system is a very logical thing to do either.
