I think you have missed the point. Most console owners are not as obsessive as you or I. And remember, the PS2 had owners had everyone from the occassional gamer to the obsessive player -- that's how you sell over 125M consoles. Remember though, the average console owner buys less than a dozen titles for their consoles (look at historical software attach rates). So they really like the games they have and play. When switching from PS1 to PS2, there was a choice that would enable people to only have one console since the PS2 played the PS1 titles. However, after the early versions, PS2 owners did not have that option. Thus, if they were going to have two consoles, they were free to choose. And either many appear to be saying (1) there are still PS2 games coming out, I am not upgrading, or (2) I am going to buy something different because the PS3 won't let me existing PS2 games (or any new ones I might want) and I wll worry about Bu-Ray later. If there was backward compatability, people might say -- Hmm. New movies. Old games. New games. One unit. I think I will buy a PS3. That was the point I was trying to make. And I can personally say that I was interested in Sony's new console, until B/C was pulled. Now I have a Wii and am more likely to get a 360 as my next console than a PS3. (Right now I have a PS2, Xbox, and Wii hooked up to my TV. The Wii replaced the GC. So I am brand agnostic.) Mike from Morgantown

I think BC has very little to do with a decision to buy a PS3. You aren't paying that much money to play PS2 games. You will get PS3 games and play them, especially the franchises you enjoyed on the PS2 that are exclusive to Sony. I don't see what it has to do with your decision since you have a PS2 already and can use that to play PS2 games. All PS3s play PS1 games, btw. If you want to use that as your reason to not get a PS3, fine, but I really don't think most people care when they buy an expensive new system that it can't play PS2 games, especially if they still have a PS2. It's not hard to find space for both.
