Intimidation, are you kidding me?  What a laugh...  More like "aim here for instant headshot."

I believe this is also a case of where gameplay takes the place of realism.  For that reason, to help differentiate sides, they go with red eyes.  Yes, in real life it wouldn't be the wisest thing to do, but for gaming purposes it works.
