I don't get this, though. Nintendo isn't stopping third parties from releasing (M in the US) type games on their platform. The Mortal Kombat issue is ancient history. Nowadays, I'm pretty sure they openly support MadWorld, despite all the controversy it brings. Also, even if Nintendo isn't making M games, the third parties should fill that gap. Take your current PS3 library, for example. None of the Sony games you own are rated M.
The only limitation the Wii has vs HD consoles is in the hardware (graphics). If it were closer in hardware specs, it would receive ports of all the games that interest you, and probably dominate more like the PS2 (maybe next gen?). This will become more clear as this gen rolls on. If you don't remember, Nintendo was glad to announce GTA coming to the DS. They would love a similar type of game on the Wii, as well, because they really do want it to be a console for everyone.
Now, I don't know if you'll ever accept the console, solely because the graphics look like last gen. However, the only policy of theirs that limits their ability to please 'everyone' is maintaining profitability. They aren't going to lose a ton of money just to hold onto their customers, unlike Sony or MS have done this gen.
