I have a 80GB PS3 that has the PS2 GPU in it so I have software emulation. I barely use the 80GB PS3 for backwards compatibility for PS2 games. I bought a PS2 Slim just 3 months ago cause I was fed up with the glitches some games had on the 80GB PS3.
If anyone cares about backwards compatibility so much they should just buy a PS2 Slim. They are $130US. Not hard to find. It's worth the admission if you want to still play PS2 games. I bought mine and love it without any problems. I'm currently playing God of War.
