Is Chess a casual game?

@mibuokami: I'm not gonna spin anything since I never played these games... Sure there are some very shallow games on the Wii, the same as happens on the PC or PS2 or any high-selling platform.

The wii is labelled 'casual' because it does not appeal to a group of gamer who have long identify themselves as 'hardcore' gamers. Is it right? Probably not, but it was also fairly accurate for the past 2 generation and only now (thanks to the wii) are we finally pushing past that particular definition of 'hardcore'

I don't understand. How do we know for how long these gamers called themselves hardcore, and how do we know the Wii does not appeal to them? I'm not even going to get started on the many definitions of hardcore here, I just don't see things as clear cut as you do.
