The interaction and writing were okay. The characters were a mixed bag. I hated Kreia and I despised the fact that new characters were almost identical to old ones (*cough* Atton *cough*). As for the story... I was hoping Obsidian would come up with something better. Instead they just said "Oh look at what Bioware did, let's run the same story just with different characters and places." That's a bit of an exaggeration but, on the whole, it felt like too much was lifted from the original. |
The story was far better in Kotor 2 Imo, and Kreia is one of the most memorable characters I've ever encountered in a videogame. Her disguised passion and raison d'etre blew my mind with a sublety that Kotor 1's less refined twist (you being Revan) didn't have. It just made so much sense to all of Kreia's actions throughout the game. Of course Kotor 1's twist was still awesome, but I remember wondering whether I was Revan a couple of times before I reached that point.
I also loved the fact that it wasn't just Good vs Evil: it was the self vs the ones around you, the moral vs amoral. They didn't cut dry in 2 slices. There was alot of grey between them.
Kotor 2's story wasn't like the first one. The problem was that Obisidian only had 12 months to make Kotor 2, so they were forced to re-use ALOT of the same assets, voice actors, etc... so it's understandable that someone might feel there's resemblance.
