MS Windows dominates in Japan, just like elsewhere, so the do not seem to have a problem with Microsoft products in general.
Possible reasons the XBox cannot catch on in Japan: Not a Japanese company. Too loud. Too bulky. Poor reliability. Lack of Japan focused games (besides RPGs) Perception that Japanese companies make better hardware. Brand loyalty. Portables dominate the market. Perception that it is a western focused console.
