Japan is partly a collectivist country, not an individualistic society like the US & EU.  That means they tend to do what is best for the whole--their family, their country.  When you ask an American "Who are you?"  We tend to reply with a name or a career--an individualistic answer.  In most Asian countries, they will reply with something such as "I am Japanese" or "I am the third son of ....."

This is important in understanding Asian countries because they are more likely to support their own products--Not always, but often the case, especially if they feel a foreign product will HURT their own.  Thanks Psychology class & Global Economics!

Another important factor to take into account is that Japanese like reliable hardware.  And the 360 started out pretty rough in that department.  Although, MS has made a lot of improvements, it takes time to freshen a tarnished reputation...and you ARE seeing some improvement in 360 sales now that MS has made improvements pricecuts and games.

I dont know about you but both of those sound like improvements.
