Why did the dreamcast fail?

I think the fact that it didn't have DVD playback was a big factor in its failure. By the time it came out, everyone knew that PS2 would use DVDs, and at the time (1999?), DVD was a big selling point.

I too had a Dreamcast, and have nothing but fond memories of it.
