I'm continuing to watch One Piece, but I've kind of tired of Bleach and Naruto. Not sure If I'll continue them or not. I'm also watching Lucky Star, School Days, and Kenichi (I haven't read the manga, but I really enjoyed the first season). When the new Gundam series (Gundam 00) starts in October I'll be sure to watch it. It's being directed by Seiji Mizushima (FMA, Neon Genesis Evangelion) so I have pretty high hopes for it. The last alternate universe I truly enjoyed was Turn A Gundam, which was a great departure for the series from the standard. That's pretty much it for me this year. However, I am constantly picking up new animes as I go, so I'm sure I'll end up watching many more than that.

It's understandable that you drop Naruto (I dropped it sometime when it was filler. I know the filler ended but meh...). As for Bleach, I dropped it somewhere in the middle of the arc after episode 52 (forgot what it's called). You should also give Hayate no Gotoku - comedy anime about butler and there's a whole bunch of reference and parodies, a lot of which I don't recognize, and really likeable characters; Seto no Hanayome - one of the few romance harems out there that isn't frustrating; and Kaze no Stigma a try.

I would also like to give Gundam a try but there's a whole bunch of them I don't know which to pick (and I don't wanna watch the really old ones). The only mecha anime I like right now is FMP, though (and someone from animesuki forum pointed out that was the only mecha anime that made sense to him/her). Too bad Kyoto Animation is busy with Clannad TV (an anime out of the 2 I'm looking forward the most after this season, along with Shakugan no Shana 2) next season, and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu 2 after that...

Unfortunately if you want to avoid the really old ones you will miss the best ones haha.  Really though if you wanted to skip the old ones the one I recommend first above all else is Turn A Gundam.  The series does have some references to the old ones, but it's really a character driven story, so missing references to the old Gundams won't hurt the experience.  It's a really touching anime, so if you like more character intensive and less "oooh watch the big robots make each other blow up" then I recommend Turn A Gundam or the original Mobile Suit Gundam above anything else.  G Gundam is weird, but it also has some great characters and a touching story.

Other than that, since Gundam 00 is being directed by Seiji Mizushima you can bet there will be a lot of great characters in the series.  After the sellout series Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny, which were made for the sole purpose of selling model kits, I have high hopes for Gundam 00 to return the series to it's roots as an action drama.

I'll be sure to check those three out as well.  I could use some more stuff to watch this year.
