I usually will right then and there try to catch up.
One time, I was about halfway through Shining Force on the GameGear and had it erase the save because of a static shock. I spent 2-3 hours getting back to where I was in the game.
This has happened to my son 2-3 times in Kirby Super Star for SNES. If you hit that cart accidentally while playing, it resets the memory. He replayed until the last time. It happened right before Xmas and Santa Claus brought him a DS with KSS-Ultra. (My son is 6, btw).
