Going by the number of bugs in oblivion and bugs/crashes of FO3 ive witnessed on my ps3, 'quality assurance' is what seems to make bethesda employees really feel faint, great games but ffs do your job. No wonder he is looking forward to other titles, probably getting fed up of rebooting his system.

I'd suggest getting the patch then.

I've had no problems with FO 3 after more than 50 hours with multiple playthroughs.

That said, I wish Bethsoft didn't have a knack of putting buggy games on shelves and patching them later.

That I will do when i play through the game next time, its a bit of a catch 22, while its great that this generation of console can get the updates, the downside is lazy developers use it to their advantage by cutting down on before sales testing. My real bug bear is oblivion, for a game to be out that long and still have issues that they refuse to fix because its 'not a priority', especially when it is really irritating ones like the vampirism in the GOTY edition, its pretty arrogant and unprofessional imo.
