I seem to remember that a lot of PS fans called the 360 a failure since it didn't include Bluray, and claimed that the Wii was kiddy.
I do remember many people saying the 360 isn't as future proof as the PS3 due to not having Blu-Ray (for high definition gaming as well as movie playback). This I agree with this even and that's something else than what you stated.
As for the Wii being kiddy. Yes it's more kid content orientated, but I don't see that as a bad thing, according to Nintendo the bulk of GameCube owners were kids. It doesn't mean the console isn't fun and innovative.
I saw more hostility from 360 fans towards the Wii, this may be due to following Microsoft PR. Let's compare:
Microsoft PR statements:
- "We're positioning ourselves to be ready if, in fact, gamers find they're ready to graduate from a certain experience potentially with the Wii, either because it's limited on the type of gameplay that's available or the technology in that box"
Graduate? That implies Wii users are uneducated or something. Limited gameplay?
- Regarding Wii sales: "That is not sustainable, it's never been sustainable,"
- "We think that as soon as the Wii customer turns 14, they want something else."
Wow, just wow. That means all Wii fans here are 13 or below?
"And although Wii is almost a GameCube with a DVD drive"
Ouch...
Sony PR statements for comparison:
"Wii is a core gaming device. It' s a more fun, intuitive sort of product to pick up, where the PS3 is a broader entertainment solution"
"Wii is a wonderful device, but has a different target audience."
"We feel very confident that the PlayStation fan is going to wait until they can get a PlayStation 3. If they do pick up a Wii, it’s as more of a novelty.”
So, 3 positive Wii mentions from Sony.
