See my post above. It cost equiv $399 in Japan at launch in Dec 1994, but was dropped to $299 for the Sep 1995 North American launch. The buying guides of 1994 speculated that both the the PS and the Saturn could be anywhere from $300 - $450 (there wasn't much precedent, although the Panasonic FZ-1 3DO was $499 at the time, recently reduced from its launch price of $699). In any case, I am 110% certain the PS launched for $299 in North America.
