Now for my puzzler

What happens if Atari does not pull the 7800 from store shelves in 1984 -- so it is still there when the NES makes it US debut and plays games with which American audiences are more familiar?

Mike from Morgantown

Nes didn't stole a market, it revived one that was languished ( caused by Atari mismanagment ).

Nintendo with the Nes fought to regain consumers awareness for console gaming and fought the idea that the future of gaming was on the more capable, high tech, elitist home computer ( ST, Amiga ).

So Atari 7800 and Master System at that time can only take the crumbs left by Nintendo unexpected ( by market analysts ) success.

Even if Atari didn't pull the 7800 they won't gain anything substantial from Nintendo success ( hell console gaming was call Nintendo at that time ) and Atari was still a company poorly run.

EDIT:

1) What if Atari had signed the contract to publish the NES in the US market ?

2) What if Nec had released the Tatsujin project in spite of PC FX like PC Engine successor ?

3) What if Matsushita had released the M2 ?

Stealth edit:

4) What if WiiSports didn't exist ?
