Well despite it coming from him I guess he has his reasons to be a little paranoid about the US. US has been known to work behind the scenes in things like this. And being a Latin American president where US did a lot of that behind the scenes work, his paranoia might be justified.
However I doubt US has anything to do with this. This is purely between those 2 countries.
