And one should note: Despite the lack of a price drop for the past 1 year and 2 months, sales have been bad vs. the X360 and Wii, but not very bad considering the insane cost of the product ($400-$500) and the further fact that sales haven't abated very much on the console. Sony cut the price last time when sales were in the (literal) gutter.

Even if it declines YOY, it's still in a decent position given the cost of the product. Sony may not *need* to cut the price for awhile, unless the PS3 starts seeing major YOY decreases.

I guess that's a good position for Sony to be in - not being forced to drop the price due to continued mediocre (but good for the price) sales.

But the losses YOY will be significant. The PS3 did well for the first 6 months of last year if you consider MGS4, GT5P and coming off the back of the price cut. The holiday season sales were lower than the Xbox 360 two years ago so coming into this year the sales of the PS3 will fall significantly YOY, if you consider the poor performance of the 360 this time last year. We won't know the true extent of the damage until the end of January when we get the financial disclosures.
