The worrying thing is that the PS3 hardware may be on its way to profitability, but there are still massive marketing costs and staff salaries that need to be paid.
Even at a fairly modest $60k per year salary average by rumoured 4000 staff, that's $250 million alone per year. Talented software developers and executives would be making far far more than that so it's possible that the number could be higher. That's assuming that Sony can run their entertainment division with the same staffing numbers as Nintendo which is considered a very efficient company. Does that 4000 include all their 1st party studios? I doubt it.
