The numbers are correct (as far as I've seen), it's just that the year is off by 1 in Sony's case for comparison reasons (the fiscal years are counted differently between the companies). So when you see Q1 09 it's Q1 08.

There's some data missing there for the last quarter, when Sony lost about $400m in the gaming division. Of course the PS3 loss is bigger than that table shows, since it includes PS2 and PSP profits. Still, the PS3 loss is not $8-10 billion.

 

Remember though that the PSP was not profitable when Sony first launched it, the PSP might be help offset the PS3 loss now but back when the PS3 launched the PSP was not much help at all and made worse by crappy software sales.

 

All Sony need to do to fix gaming is simple, when launching a new console/handheld ensure that it's profitable from day 1.
